EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO REFUGEES

In order to help the hundreds of thousands of people that were placed into refugee camps in the north and northeast portions of Sri Lanka, a decision was made to broaden the scope of our relief activities in Sri Lanka and to provide assistance to these people who are in desperate need of  help.

In early July, we were able to get permission to visit the Pulmoddai Refugee Camp in northeastern Sri Lanka and to bring a truck load of 10,000 bottles of water and 10,000 packages of food.  The journey to the camp was difficult, however it was extremely rewarding being able to meet with the families in the camp, offer them some food and water and see the smiles on their faces.

While our aid could only provided a small amount of assistance to the thousands of people living in this camp, hopefully the people in the camp realized that people cared about them and this would help to ease their suffering until they are allowed to return to their home villages.
