VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA OF LOS ANGELES

SRI LANKA RELIEF FUND

 JUNE 2005 UPDATE

Volunteers of America of Los Angeles Sri Lanka Relief Fund has been actively involved in the rebuilding of a nursery school in the Ampara area of Sri Lanka.

Construction of the Volunteers of America Nursery School was completed in late May 2005 and the school opened shortly thereafter.  Currently, the school is serving 46 children!

We have made a long-term commitment to provide operating funds to this school in an effort to assure that this school will be able to provide greatly needed childcare services to children and families in this tsunami affected area for many years to come.

We have partnered with Shiva Charity, a non-profit organization rebuilding schools in Sri Lanka, in this project.  Additional construction funding has come from Room to Read, a non-profit organization that supports construction of schools in developing countries.
