Above figures represent funds raised and uses of these funds.  Additional disbursements beyond funds currently raised are desired to support commitments to various ongoing children's programs and micro-credit programs.  These additional disbursements are subject to receipt of additional funds from donors.  Currently, an additional $540.48 is required to be received from donors over the next 5 years to fully fund these desired disbursements.  It is anticipated that future donations will exceed this amount and all desired disbursements will be made.

Initial use of funds focused on what was needed most at the time - emergency food and water and medical treatment.  Current and future disbursements are focusing more on longer term assistance helping people reestablish their livelihood through  micro-credit programs, children's services, educational scholarships and housing reconstruction.

Significant funding has been provided to micro-credit programs providing loans to individuals in tsunami affected areas of Sri Lanka. Initial funding helped 100 families in the Hambantota area and expanded to help other families as loans were repaid.  In addition, loan funds will constantly recycle allowing these funds to help more and more families in the future.  We provided additional funding to this micro-credit program in August 2008 so that more families could be helped and began funding a second micro-credit program in the Tissamaharama area in March 2010 so that we could help even more families.  Additional funds have been provided on an annual basis so that more people can be assisted.  We are also providing funding for many school and community projects which are helping many needy children and families.

Assistance has been provided to almost all major areas affected by the disaster and to individuals of all ethnic and religious groups.

Due to the tremendous need for assistance, the scope of the Sri Lanka Relief Fund was broadened in June 2009 to include providing emergency aid to refugees in the northern and northeastern areas of the country.  In July 2009, we physically delivered 10,000 bottles of water and 10,000 packages of food to one of the refugee camps.  We hope to provide additional assistance to these people in the future.

Note:  In an effort to maximize funds available for distribution to those in need, no travel related costs have been incurred by the fund.  All air travel and hotel costs have been paid for personally by David Lettas.
